Celebrating Life Through Empowerment, Education, Healing and LOVE!
What Is A Doula?
The word Doula is derived from ancient Greece, meaning "woman who serves". The doula serves as a coach and proponant throughout the pregnancy, birth and postpartum process, offering insight, advice, information, physical and emotional support and guidance.
What Does A Doula Do?
Each doula is different, offers varying services, and has a wide array of experiences, there is a perfect doula for each family, with that in mind, most doulas provide the same basic services. Generally one to three prenatal meetings to get to know each other and what the family wants and answer any questions, access via call/text for further guidance and labor support from beginning until shortly after birth. During labor a doula helps a mother and birth team to adhere to the mother's birth plan as long as the mama desires, can act as a neutral bridge between mommy and birth professionals offering insight and experience based knowledge while always supporting the wishes and best interests of the mother and baby, offers comfort measures, aides in setting the environment the family desires to welcome baby and perhaps most importantly, empowers the mother to remember her own strength and natural ability to easily birth her children and embark on the motherhood journey. The doula does not take the place of the partner, midwives, doctors, nurses or any others but adds to the birth team with individual specialties, love and support. Some provide prenatal classes, placenta encapsulation or other placenta services, belly binding as well as other offerings. There are also postpartum doulas that help with meals, cleaning, lactation support, infant care advice, new family support and emotional and physical recovery.
Who Needs A Doula?
All families can benefit from a doula's attention, whether intending to birth at home or in a hospital, first pregnancy or mother of many, vaginal or surgical birth, welcoming baby individually or with a following of many, all women and their babies benefit from additional support, empowerment, help, knowledge and love! A few of the benefits of a Doula:
60% fewer requests for and use of epidurals
50% fewer surgical births (caesarean sections)
40% reduction in the use of forceps and vacuum
40% reduction in the use of synthetic oxytocin for inductions or augmentations
30% reduction in use of pain medication
25% reduction in labor length
51% increase in rates of breastfeeding at 6 weeks postpartum (51% vs 29%)
Higher self-esteem (74% vs 59%) at 6 weeks postpartum
Less anxiety (28% vs 40%) at 6 weeks postpartum
Less depression (10% vs 23%) at 6 weeks postpartum
How Much Do A Doula's Services Cost?
The fees vary greatly, a birth doula will charge $200 - $4,500, depending on experience, location and other factors. Insurance generally does not cover the cost.
When Should A Doula Be Contacted or Hired?
A doula can be contacted prior to conception to the time of birth, on average it is best to begin interviewing early in the pregnancy to make the process easier and to enjoy the advocacy and build a relationship throughout the pregnancy.

During labor and birth I will provide continuous support in all areas necessary, offering massage, auric and karmic clearing, aromatherapy, movement and position guidance, focal points, reminders, encouragement, tools and actions to remain comfortable, calm and in control of the birth process, guiding and honoring you to remember your power, purpose and perfection! If a surgical birth becomes a necessary reality I will continue to support and guide you in creating the birth environment you and your family desire and deserve. I operate on a need based price scale, on average I charge $1,000 for my birth doula services. I accept payment plans, as well as, offer the same support and guidance to families who genuinely can not afford the asked amount at no charge or trade, because I know that ALL woman and babies benefit from divine unconditional love, advocacy and empowerment.
Mamas have just completed the most amazing journey, they have created a human and an organ and sustained that life, then brought the new unique, perfect being out onto the Earth, all while enduring many unique widely varying emotions and experiences! Most want to share the story, emotions, thoughts and experiences, they need to be honored, heard, validated and revered! One of the many reasons the postpartum depression rate in America is so high, is due to the lack of postpartum support, validation, healing and guidance, this also attributes to many other issues for mom, baby and family. Throughout the pregnancy and especially birth journey women are open, open mentally, emotionally and especially physically during birth and left empty, literally and figuratively afterwards. Most often once the beautiful baby/babies are born the mother is almost forgotten and the vast majority of the focus is now on the gorgeous new little being, while of course that is natural, beautiful and done out of love and excitement, the mommy needs love, validation and honoring, to heal and celebrate the birth and new life! It is my honor to provide healing, warming, restorative, educational and empowering services. I am a practitioner of Postpartum Care and I vow to: Be fully present and clear, so that I am able to hold space, fully honor, love, support, revere, encourage and listen to each mother with my full, open heart and soul, with the purest love, light and highest frequency, as well as remind each unique mother of her power, ability, unique journey and importance, while embarking on this new journey, transitioning into the newest life chapter and more full true self she has become. What Is a Sacred Doula?
A SACRED DOULA is someone who provides non-judgmental, non-medical support to women and their families during labor, birth and the immediate postpartum. A Sacred Doula understands that this work IS sacred and worthy of great respect. A Sacred Doula is able to hold the space a woman needs to complete this journey in reverence, sometimes in the midst of great obstacles. A Sacred Doula will ALWAYS remember that no matter the outcome of the birth, the mother and baby must be respected and loved.
I received training via Sacred Doula, as well as many additional training and certification organizations, but my most useful and pertinent skills and knowledge has come from my four pregnancies and births, my passions for all things pertaining to; birth, mommies, babies and families, evidence based self guided research, attending births and my natural intense maternal instinct!
To become a certified Sacred Doula one must attend the training retreat and complete the additional requirements. Visit the official Sacred Doula website to explore more regarding training and the different approach and reverence a Sacred Doula offers.
